Chatters and Tweeters,
I'll have almost 3 months to spend (Nov 6-Jan 30) traveling in this part
of the world (New Zealand and Australia). I've been to Oz twice before
and will focus on South Australia and Tazmania. Never been to New
Zealand. I'm also hoping to do some hiking and experience some culture.
Here's the questions I have for group members:
About how much time and which spots would be recommended for birding
each of the following S. Australia, Tazmania (about 3 weeks set aside),
North Island, South Island (about 8 weeks)?
Suggestions for other islands for endemics and rare birds?
Suggestions for pelagics?
Better to go to New Zealand first or Australia first? if I go to Oz
first (Nov- begining of December)will I be getting too far into the
breeding season and make it tougher to find the NZ birds the rest of
December-end of January? Or vice-versa?
Any ideas about how to possibly cut some of the costs? Less expensive
car rental companies, places to stay, campgrounds, etc.
Suggestions for hikes as a birder and ecologist, as well as to
experience the natural beauty.
Thanks for any and all ideas. All the best
