The Black-tailed Gull was well seen at about 11:30 am today. I met Steve and
Sybil Kohl at the Dick Gilmur Access at 11:00 am and Sybil put us onto a
dark-mantled bird halfway out on the far log. We continued watching it and
most field marks were there. It did get up a couple of times, but we did not
see the tail until 11:30 am. Bingo! Shortly afterwards, Ken Knittle showed
up and got to see the gull. Five minutes later the gull flew, affording us
excellent views of its tail. It appears that it went for a spot of lunch
over at the mouth of the Puyallup River. It is likely to be back on the logs
this afternoon though.
Ken and I went over to Dash Point Dock and met Guy McWethy there. No luck on
jaegers, but a female Black Scoter and a fly-by likely Common Loon were
nice.
Good Birding!
