When I write up articles about my vulture study at Salt Creek I
usually cite the date 28 September as our all-time high date over the
years. Doesn't mean that every 28th there were birds, but it seems
the vultures know what's what. I recently received - on the 28th - a
sighting from Woodland, Washington of 300-350 turkey vultures passing
overhead. Tracee Geernaert looked up when stuck in traffic late on
the 27th in downtown Seattle and counted 30 vultures circling
overhead - she even got a photo! Sometimes traffic problems yield good things.

So, pause and look up! Preferably not in moving traffic . . .
