Hello Tweeters,

Out late last night --> up late this morning, so I was chastising myself for not getting out early into Lincoln Park (West Seattle) as I'd planned. But that turned out to be a good thing, since I happened to notice that not three feet from my upstairs bedroom window were Townsend's Warblers in the morning sun, foraging through my berry-rich hawthorne tree. (I really love that tree because the spring flowers bring the first batches of enthusiastic warblers, and now here they are again with the fall berries.) Later on a Yellow Warbler or two joined them. (By the way, speaking of warblers, I also sighted a Black-throated Gray Warbler in Lincoln Park on Tues 9/27.)

Then a little while later this morning, I heard a tapping on the huge Atlas Spruce outside my other upstairs window, and there were both a Red-breasted Sapsucker and a Downy Woodpecker on the same tree. (I did finally make it out to Lincoln Park once the rain paused this afternoon, and had a nice close encounter with a remarkably calm Barred Owl at eye level.)

The woodpecker photos didn't turn out too well, but there are a couple of passable Townsend's and Yellow Warbler ones on my Flickr site at flickr.com/photos/trileigh.

Happy birding,
Trileigh
