Tweeters,

I drove over to Mazama this weekend for some end-of-season cross-country
skiing. On the way, I saw a loose flock of 12-15 Mountain Bluebirds. This
was on Alt-97, about halfway between the Columbia River and Lake Chelan,
just north of Downy Rd. and FS Rd. 8550. They were flitting (flycatching?)
in some very green fields along both sides of the highway. In Mazama itself,
Say's Phoebes were around the Mazama Ranch House area, calling and
flycatching from most of the available perches. Unless they were following
me, I saw approx. 6 individual birds. I also enjoyed seeing and hearing RB
nuthatches, WB nuthatches, Mt. Chickadees, plenty of TVs, and the usual Bald
Eagles and Ravens. Here's to spring! -Mary Bond, Seattle
