Today Susan and I birded our way up the Columbia River Gorge into Klickitat County searching for a break from the rain. We found about a dozen WESTERN MEADOWLARKS at Hamilton Island, below Bonneville Dam, in Skamania County. A WESTERN GULL was on the concrete wall near the floating sea lion trap, where it has been present for several months. My first OSPREY was at Rock Creek Cove at Stevenson. At the mouth of the Wind River we saw our first CASPIAN TERNS of the year, another was over Drano Lake, where there were two COMMON LOONS. We found a few spots of sun, WESTERN BLUEBIRDS and many LEWIS'S WOODPECKERS and a nice selection of wildflowers around Catherine Creek in Klickitat County. When we got home our first 2012 Skamania County, female RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD was at our feeder. Wilson Cady
