It is strange how much difference a short distance can make. I have been
so thrilled to have four breeding Goldfinch couples here each summer for
the past five years, but when I lamented their departure in the fall,
somone told me that they were year round residents at Ridgefield (which
is relatively the same elevation as here--and often has wetter and
colder weather).
