After spending the afternoon at the marsh? listening to (but still not seeing)?the Virginia rails, I headed (east) up?Dayton St. in my pickup towards home.?? Cars coming (west) down?Dayton were pulling over to avoid something in the middle of the street in front of the sewage treatment plant.??? A juvie?Cooper's hawk had bagged a pigeon and was?holding it down in the middle of?street.? After I drove slowly past the two birds, I looked in my side view?mirror and saw the young hawk?take off and hit the tire of a car which had pulled over.?

I parked on a side street and grabbed by camera along with my parka in case the hawk was injured and?had to be subdued before being taken to PAWS.?? The pigeon was walking on the ground behind some bushes and bystanders said the hawk had?flown?off.??? The evil minions of the Dark Lord which had gathered in the tree on the corner to cheer on the combatants flew off and things quieted down once again.??
