I had a chance to scope out the Puget Sound birds yesterday afternoon
(4-5-12) from several points along the Edmonds waterfront, including
the public pier, Sunset Avenue (north of the ferry dock), and the
Water Street public access, which is about a mile north of Sunset
Avenue. There were 130+ Brant, lots of Surf Scoters, 15 Black Scoters,
Buffleheads, both Common and Barrow's Goldeneyes, Red-breasted
Mergansers, 5 Pacific Loons, 1 Common Loon in alternate plumage, a
Pied-billed Grebe in the marina, a number of Horned Grebes (in various
stages of molt; 1 near the ferry dock in alternate plumage), Red-
necked Grebes, approximately 30 Western Grebes, Double-crested and
Pelagic Cormorants (several of the Pelagics showing their white
patches), 1 adult Bald Eagle on a piling near the ferry dock and
another on top of a conifer, Mew and Glaucous-winged Gulls, and a
number of Common Murres, Pigeon Guillemots, and Rhinoceros Auklets. An
adult Red-tailed Hawk circled over the Edmonds Bowl in the company of
a Crow or two.

There was nothing of particular interest at the Edmonds Marsh on
either the north or south side, just the expected winter/resident
birds. It was a nice afternoon to be out as it was dry but chilly.
