Hi Tweets...I know it is impossible to tell if these are the same birds
that have shown up the last four years in nearly the same beach spot in
Ocean Shores...but they're back. They were found at the Butter Clam access
Saturday, with a mixed flock of Western Sandpipers and Sanderlings, feeding
at the waters edge. It was hard to spot the Least Sandpipers higher up on
the dry sand, but I managed to keep from flushing them...about 20 of them.
There were a lot of people, cars, trucks, and dogs, and the shorebirds were
scattered up and down the beach trying to avoid the incoming tide and all
the other hazards, constantly being flushed by one or the other. Then the
kicker: a falcon-shaped (to them) kite! They acted as though being pursued
by a falcon.

Anyway, it was good to see the willets.
