Inspired by the Oliver's brief posting about S 204th St., my son Ira
Zuckerman and I headed down to Kent today from 1-3 pm. We saw many RTHs &
Bald Eagles from the freeway.

First stop, S 200th St., which we turned on by mistake thinking it was
204th. It looks like a mall/office park is going in here at the south end of
Southcenter Pkwy. We saw/heard 3 Greater Yellowlegs, and a few Northern
Shovelers and Green-winged Teal.

Next stop, the fields along S 204th St. referred to in Grace's posting. We
saw three Greater Yellowlegs, and plenty of seasonal ducks. This a great
spot, and we will visit it again.

Third stop, the Boeing Ponds. Here we saw a male Ruddy Duck with two
females, a female Common Merganser, and we heard plenty of calling coots and
pb grebes.

Fourth stop, the grassy knoll on the E side of the Kent Ponds complex. We
had many long close looks at a circling Osprey, a FOY bird for us. We found
an American Bittern stalking along the north edge of the water. After about
15 minutes it flew off out of sight to the south. There's an active Bushtit
in one of the taller bushes just below and S of the bench at the grassy
knoll. It's always fun to watch them dive down into their sock-like nest.

Final stop, the lookout tower on the W side of the Kent Ponds complex. Here
we watched a spider roll a fly in its silk, and then drag it into its hole.
Just like Shelob & Frodo in The Two Towers (or The Return of the King for
you film buffs).
