Observed 1000-2000 BOGUs about 7pm yesterday in the narrows just off Point Defiance. We normally see a small flock (50) all winter from our home in Gig Harbor but the numbers soared last night. Not sure if this will continue or for how long, but I know they gather before departing for the north. Planning to check if they are visible from Point Defiance tonight .

Also 3 firsts of the year for the yard yesterday: tree swallows, orange-crowned warbler, yellow-rumped warbler. Last week marked the return of white-crowned sparrow (and his incessant singing) and rufous hummingbird.

Other than the fact our neighbor cut down 26+ of our trees without our permission, big leaf maples a Western Screech Owl was known to frequent, it's been a very good couple of weeks in Gig Harbor.

If anyone has experience legally dealing with the neighbor/tree problem, I welcome words of wisdom because I can't "Let It Be" (he's done it before). cmborre at comcast.net
