Hi Tweeters, are you interested in the Seattle Audubon Master Birder
program? It's not offered every year but a new class is forming soon. It's
a wonderful opportunity for in-depth learning about the birds of Washington
with Dennis Paulson. For those of you who haven't taken a class or birded
with Dennis, I just can't say enough about his knowledge of birds and his
skill as an educator. I went through the class last year so let me know if
you have any questions - I'd be happy to respond off-line. You can learn
more about the Master Birder program at an informational meeting this
Wednesday, April 11, at the Center for Urban Horticulture, 3501 NE 41st
Street (by Montlake Fill) in Seattle, Douglas Classroom, 7-9 p.m.

The class doesn't begin until late September, but class size is limited and
applications are due by May 5, 2012. Complete information is available on
the Seattle Audubon website (see link below), along with a schedule of
dates and times to take the short identification quiz that is part of the
application process. In addition, Master Birder graduates will lead a
series of short field trips in Seattle on April 21, 22 and 29 for people
interested in learning more about the program. Details and sign-up for
these field trips will be available at the information meeting. This year's
Master Birder program will feature Dennis Paulson offering one or two
lectures a week, plus guest lecturers. There will be full-class and
optional smaller group field trips, and weekly birding by ear sessions
linked to season, habitat, and species groups. There will also be homework
designed to reinforce the material as well as teach master birders how to
foster lifelong learning. Classes will begin Monday, September 24, with two
evening classes weekly (except November 21) through December 5. The
winter/spring term will run February 18 through April 29, 2013. For more
information, visit Seattle Audubon at
