My son, my friend Terry, and I got soaked, but the?rainy day visit to the marina was worth it.?? Two rhinoceros auklets in breeding plumage were not too far off the fishing pier.? My big honkin' 100-400L zoom is now back in commission, so I got off a few shots of the rhinos before my attention was?diverted?to a river otter swimming north along the marina breakwater from the entrance ot the marina.? It swam parallel to the breakwater towards the fishing pier, then climbed up onto the breakwater and went down the other side back into the marina.? ?I'll have to study the photos to see if it is the same otter with the scarred nose that I photographed last year.
?
A?horned grebe in mating plumage and a pied-billed grebe posed beneath the walkway out to fishing pier.??The resident?female kingfisher sat on the stern rail of a boat while?giving her?WWF "head slam"?to a fish she had caught before eating it. ??
