During today's (Friday 4/13) tour of the Edmonds Birdmuda Triangle I noticed a great blue heron?starting a nest on the south end of the inner?marina breakwater, opposite Anthony's Restaurant.??That is the?same location as the one built two years ago, which?was torn down by the Port of Edmonds and?rebuilt by?the herons.? The Port allowed the second nest to remain, I suspect in part due to the bad publicity the Port received for tearing the first nest down and (according to an article in the Edmonds Beacon)?claiming it had permission from the Department of Agriculture to do?so.
?
The heron nest of two years ago?hatched four chicks.? I?know the number of surviving chicks dwindled to one, but I don't know if that?lone chick survived.? When your nest is built above water,?you only get one chance?at learning?to fly.
