T'was nice birding along the southwest shore of Lake Washington today. A Caspian Tern did an elegant north to south flyover at Martha Washington Park, while one Horned Grebe in full breeding plumage posed just offshore. Another pair of stunning Horned Grebes was present at the Lakewood Marina. One female Red-breasted Merganser was fishing about 100 yards off the south shore of Seward Park. My last lake sighting of a Red-breasted Merganser was in 2004 at the Lakewood Marina.

Many Violet-green Swallows swooping over the surface of the lake at the Marina, as well as two Barn Swallows.

I had to go to Juneau last weekend for a lifer Bonapart's Gull sighting, only to find today that there are "millions" of just north of here!
