Three people have written me, since I asked about pictures of Hutton's Vireos, and White-crowned Sparrows, and all three have had questions about the White-crowned Sparrow, Z.l.pugetensis, so here are some pictures, and some reading if people are interested.

California has five types of White-crowned Sparrows [WCSP], fortunately we usually only see two: Puget Sound and Gambel's

"There are three subspecies of White-crowned Sparrow in Washington. Z. l. pugetensis occurs in shrubby habitats in cities, recent clear-cuts, wetlands, and alpine parkland. Z. l. gambelii nests in a variety of habitats, including alpine meadows, grass, and dense shrubs, and is best distinguished from Z. l. pugetensis by its song. Z. l. oriantha uses sub-alpine and alpine meadows."
