Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday April 19. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On April 12 a breeding plumaged male LAWRENCE?S GOLDFINCH was photographed
at a feeder near Klamath Falls. It did not remain. A SNOWY OWL is now being
seen along Hwy 205 near Ruh-Red Road north of Malheur NWR.

Heavy migrations during the week included kinglets, Vaux?s Swifts, Purple
Martins, Cassin?s Vireo, warblers, finches, and sparrows. A spectacular
northward flight of BRANDT?S CORMORANTS and CACKING GEESE occurred April 16
along the coast. A few BROWN PELICANS were also reported.

Many GREAT EGRETS were reported during the week at nests in GREAT BLUE HERON
colonies near Longview, in Scappoose Bottoms, and at the colony at
Smith/Bybee Lakes in North Portland.

On April 17 an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was near Brookings. A BREWER?S
SPARROWS was photographed April 12 at Ridgefield NWR. A LONG-BILLED CURLEW
was on the refuge April 18. The Troutdale Airport CLAY-COLORED and BREWER?S
SPARROWS continue, as does the breeding plumaged RED-NECKED GREBE at nearby
Chinook Landing. The Steigerwald Lake NWR LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE and VESPER
SPARROW are still being seen. On April 17 a SAY?S PHOEBE was near Yamhill.
That day an early BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK was near Grants Pass. A BULLOCK?S
ORIOLE was near Grants Pass April 15.

A HOUSE WREN was seen April 12 near Sisters, An April 14 report from Lake
Abert noted 16,302 SHOVELERS, 1,016 EARED GREBES, and 3,082 AVOCETS. On
April 13 an early SOLITARY SANDPIPER was at Riley Pond along Hwy 20 west of
Burns. Two BEWICK?S WRENS are now being seen at the P Ranch at Malheur NWR.

The Northeastern Oregon wintering birds are still being seen, including a
GYRFALCON at Alkali Springs Canyon.
