Karen and I recently traveled to Channel Islands National Park, off
the coast of southern California. Of course, one of our goals was to
see the Island Scrub Jay on Santa Cruz Island, which we did. Other
birdy experiences included photographing a Loggerhead Shrike at very
close range (perhaps 8' away) for several minutes, and seeing Western
Gulls breeding on Anacapa Island, a place that was overrun with rats
until the NPS exterminated them recently. Santa Cruz also has an
endemic subspecies of Gray Fox that is much smaller than Gray Foxes
on the mainland; we saw perhaps two dozen of those.

Anyway, I just completed my first weblog entry about the islands,
which you can read at http://wp.me/peJRU-1jt Several more will follow.
