Subject: [Tweeters] Snowy Owls: Going...going...not quite gone

Birders,
Yesterday afternoon, a brief visit to the foot of 72nd Street on Boundary
Bay in Delta revealed four SNOWY OWLS still present-- one quite close by,
the others a bit farther off perched on various logs. I didn't walk down
the dyke at all toward 64th Street (it was raining steadily!), so there
could easily have been 2 or 3 more Snowy Owls that were not visible from
72nd. However, it is clear that most of the large group of Snowies that
wintered at this locality have left, and the remaining ones will probably
leave very soon.
Our latest ever date for a Snowy Owl in the Vancouver area, to my knowledge,
was a May 7th bird in Pitt Meadows. It will be interesting to see whether or
not we exceed that date this year. Birders, please continue to report any
and all Snowy Owl sightings, either by e-mail or on eBird!
