Took my Nature Explorer class out to Bob Heirman, 13 kids running amok with
bug nets should have ensured a poor day of observations. But not today.
First B. of the day was a brown bunny, a longhair which somebody probably
dumped at the park.
Next B. was a barn owl which swooped over the road and into the trees along
the dike
Next B. was a banded Forest snail, tucked in a moist corner of a log.
On the river what else would show up? A Beaver. At this point, the kids
were sure today was sponsored by the letter B.
And on the way out, we saw of course, a Bittern.
Go figure. I sneak around in camo for hours on Sunday and see much less than
with a pack of noisy kids waving bug nets. Our target, the Bumble Bee
scarab, was not active today.
