Folks,

Birding at Seattle's Montlake Fill (w. of the U. W. stadium) the evening
of April 15, I was able to read the code on a color band on the leg of a
DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT roosting on a bit of wood near the shore of L.
WA. I just got the details from the banding lab.: the bird was banded
as a chick too young to fly on East Sand Island in the mouth of the
Columbia River (OR, but only 2.4 km wsw of Chinook, WA) on 21 July,
2009. They've gotten much faster at this sort of response in the last
year or so (from several months to a few days). They've also revamped
their reporting page <http://www.reportband.gov/>.

Also at the Fill that evening were VIRGINIA RAIL (one actually seen,
others calling), still a lot of wintering/migrant ducks, a WESTERN
MEADOWLARK, and a beaver (and nutria), among else.

Cheers,

Alan Grenon
Seattle
