All I really had my heart set on Monday morning was hopefully to find some
newly-arrived Wilson's Warblers. Having been laid up for weeks with knee
surgery, I just wanted to get out and enjoy some of the sights and sounds of
migration season -- the perfect remedy for a bad case of cabin fever.
Breaking 100 was the furthest thing from my mind, especially this "early" in
the season, plus I topped out at half speed with a bad wheel. Perhaps I
should haves suspected something was up when the first bird of the morning
was a Eur. Collared Dove cooing across the street. :-)

In the morning (not early) and early afternoon after a break for lunch (and
more ibuprophen) I checked 8 spots in/around Tenino, tallying 73 species.
Since I was in Olympia for a PT session and my wife was teaching, I spent
late afternoon on the waterfront and lower Capitol Lake, supper at Bayview
Thriftway, made a quick dash to Mud Bay instead of Nisqually (quicker, less
walking), and returned to upper Capitol Lake near sunset. This last stop
produced several previous "misses," which I figured pushed the count past
90. That was the first time I even thought about the century mark, and I
wondered how many more birds I could have added if I'd gone to Nisqually
instead. (I think I made the better choice.) In Olympia I added 28 species.
When I got home I decided to take advantage of the a balmy evening (and my
wife's absence) and do a little owling. First stop produced 3 owls.

> Day total: 104 species (76 Tenino, 65 Olympia)
> Highlights (nothing unusual):
- 7 warblers (no Yellow; may be personal earliest McG's)
- 3 vireos (no Red-eyed; personal earliest Warbling)
- good numbers/diversity of waterfowl on Budd Bay, including several
Barrow's Goldeneye (W Bay) and a single Cinnamon Teal (E Bay)
> Best (first) stop (8:30am): stepped out smack dab in the middle of a
bedazzling mixed migrant flock (including 6 warblers); spent 30 minutes in
this location, 24 woodland species

Misc notes:
- Probably had FOS Vaux's Swift(s) over Tenino Apr 20pm, but couldn't see
it/them. For sure Apr 21.
- Sat am, Apr 21, there seemed to be a mini-wave of singing Ruby-cr
Kinglets moving thru. (Or perhaps it was the first nice day in some time
that gave them something to sing about?)
