Hi Tweets:

I thought some updated information was in order to alert anyone who might
be thinking about joining us and the birds for the festival. This is the
latest as of 4PM, Tuesday, April 24th.

The Friday May 4th field trip to Tokeland/Grayland/Westport is full.
The field trip on Saturday May 5th, In Search of Coastal Raptors, is full.
The Friday Ocean Shores field trip has 15 seats available.
The Friday night Keynote Speaker, Richard Crossley, still has seats
available.
The Saturday Ocean Shores field trip has 11 seats remaining.
The Saturday field trip to Point Grenville still has 9 seats available.
The Saturday field trip to Lake Quinault and the Rain Forest still has
seats available.
Saturday's Shorebird I.D. lecture and Shorebirds for Beginners field trip
are still wide open, as is the Birding Trail Map lecture.
The Sunday Westport field trip also has plenty of seats available.

We have a good number of exhibitors and vendors, and lots of fun things for
the youngsters to do; this is a perfect opportunity to introduce them to
nature. So bring the family to the Fun Fair and Birding Marketplace, then
take a ride on the Shuttle out to the Sandpiper Trail boardwalk to watch
the shorebirds come in. It's a sight to see!

Alas, our famous Banquet and Auction is lacking customers; this is the main
source of funding for the education program to get local schoolkids out to
the refuge, and the source of our Americorp funding too. I am hoping some
of you staying overnight will reconsider and come to the dinner, catered by
O'Brien's...great food! We also feature some pretty neat nature-related
items in our auction.

So that's about it for the festival events, except for a few words about
the birds: THEY ARE HERE!!!!
Speaking from a personal point of view, I am seeing really good numbers of
shorebirds out on the beaches at high tide. The falcons have kept the birds
moving, so it's easy to find the larger flocks by their "globing"
maneuvers. We hope you will come on down to join us celebrating this return
of the spring migrants.

Also of note, there are still at least three Snowy Owls out on Damon Point
in Ocean Shores, and that's just strange.
