Tweeters,

For the last eight days, we have had two White-crowned sparrows in our yard. They are rare for our place. I noted that one has a clean white central head stripe, but the side stripes are the same shade of gray as on other areas of the head. I got good, long, close looks for the first time today. Is this unusual or do the normally white head side stripes appear later in the molt?

Have not seen this before.

Thanks,
Dan Reiff
