I?thought one of the birds I photographed off the fishing pier on 4-23-12 was a rhinocerous auklet.?? Ashley Jensen?correctly identified it from?my photo as a marbled murrelet in breeding plumage.
?Yesterday (4/25)?an eared grebe inside the marina and?two rhinocerous auklets?below the fishing pier posed for pretty portraits in their finest mating plumages, but a pair of red-breasted mergansers provided the real action as they chased small fish?below the surface off the north end of the marina.? Looking closely at some of my photos,? I could?see tiny fish jumping out of the water ahead of them to avoid being eaten.?
