Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 2. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On July 31 a LONG-BILLED MURRELET was photographed among a group of MARBLED
MURRELETS close to shore at the mouth of Netarts Bay. On July 25 a possible
GLOSSY IBIS was seen July 28 at Hatfield Lake near Bend. The Sandy River
Delta INDIGO BUNTING continues to be seen.

CALIFORNIA and RING-BILLED GULLS are now arriving from their nesting
colonies east of the Cascades. Shorebird migrations continue.

On August 1 a SNOWY EGRET was at the pond at the South Jetty in Bandon. On
July 24 two WILLETS were on the North Spit of Coos Bay. On July 31 one was
at New River. A SABINE?S GULL was on the beach at Florence July 29. A flock
of SANDHILL CRANES were heard over Astoria July 25.

On July 31 a WHIMBREL was at Jackson Bottom in Hillsboro. A WILLET was at
the Philomath Sewage Ponds July 29. That day a RUDDY TURNSTONE was at Fern
Ridge Reservoir. A pair of WHITE-HEADED WOODPECKERS were seen during the
week in the Red Buttes Wilderness south of Oregon Caves.

On July 25 a WHIMBREL was at the Redmond Sewage Ponds. A BROAD-TAILED
HUMMINGBIRD was in Bend July 29. On July 24 a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at
Hart Mountain NAR Headquarters. A family of RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS were at Big
Marsh in northern Klamath County. The Zumwalt Prairie SNOWY OWL continues to
be seen.

Large concentrations at Lake Abert July 28 included 45,700 WILSON?S
PALAROPE, 3,980 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, 2950 AVOCETS, and 525 BLACK-NECKED
STILTS.
