> VIRGINIA RAIL (ad. and fledgling), SORA (juv.) seen by Sabin Belknap and me at Ridgefield NWR this a.m. (8/2/12). Birds feeding practically side-by-side in marsh-fringed channel along road at s. end of N. Quigley Lake (between Markers 3 and 4).
>
> RED-SHOULDERED HAWK (juv.) perched, calling, in Oregon Ash woodland along channel on e. edge of South Lake (between Markers 9 and 10). Bird later soaring over entrance station and Lake River bridge.
>
> At least three AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS lingering on Rest Lake.
>
> PURPLE MARTINS (2 m., 4 f.) at nest gourds near entrance station. This is ideal spot for anyone wanting to observe this beautiful species, closely and at leisure.
