Subject: BLUE-WINGED WARBLER

Hello all,
I was walking my usual morning route this morning and around 5:30 am stopped and spished at the corner of SE Lamperti and SE Meadowbrook in College Place when I heard a loud chip to the south along Stone Creek which is full of cattails and willowherb. I walked toward the sound and spished again and a bright yellow bird flew across the road into the trees west of Meadowbrook. It kept chipping and moving around but I got several looks - yellow with black between eye and bill, dark wings/white wingbars, and then it landed directly above me and I saw the white vent/undertail. Wow a Blue-winged!! It then disappeared into the thick trees along the creek and went quiet. I ran home, woke up Mike, grabbed binoculars and camera and ran back down. After 30 min. I heard the bird chip again along the creek closer to Walmart - played Ipod with no luck. Mike then joined me and we covered the whole area with no luck - did find a couple Yellow Warblers to the far west by the autocenter.
This is the same area where I found the Black-throated Blue Warbler in November 2007.
Will try this evening and again early tomorrow - less traffic noise before 6 am -
Later, MerryLynn
