Hi Tweeters--

My boyfriend and I have been staying at a friend's property on Orcas Island
(about a mile northeast of Doe Bay, in a forest clearing) the past few
days, and without leaving our yard, we have seen some wonderful birds.
Noteworthy among them for us are the Red Crossbills and the Common
Nighthawks, which we were certainly not expecting, as well as three
Warblers (Orange-crowned, Wilson's, and Townsend's) and a glorious Purple
Finch with intensely rosy plumage. Just wanted to share our "yard bird"
list!

Red breasted nuthatch
Red crossbill - males, females, juveniles. Beautiful.
Dark eyed junco
White crowned sparrow
Rufous hummingbird
Hairy woodpecker
Orange crowned warbler
Wilson's warbler
Olive sided flycatcher
Pine siskin - absolutely everywhere, and very aggressive at the feeder!
Spotted towhee
American goldfinch
Bewick's wren
Chestnut backed chickadee
Northern flicker
Turkey vulture
Raven
Cedar waxwing - feasting in Oregon grape
Steller jay
American robin
Black headed grosbeak - female or juvie male - hard to tell, but good color
on breast.
Anna's hummingbird
Purple finch
Townsend's warbler
Common nighthawk - 6+, foraging insects together high over the yard

Happy birding!
