Subject: [Tweeters] Swallow & Sapsucker at Play

I watched what I believe to be play between a young VG Swallow and a
young Sapsucker the other day. The swallows were flying about my barn, I
think they were playing their own version of King of the Pole when the
sapsucker flew over landed on the side of the pole. I watched as a
swallow watched the sapsucker go round and round, stopping to peek
around the pole at the swallow. The swallow then took off and flew
around the sapsucker until the sapsucker reached the top of the pole. He
went back down and they started the game all over again. The second time
the sapsucker reached the top of the pole he waited a long time, I think
he hoped the swallow would join in the game again, but the swallow's mom
called him home and he couldn't play any more.

I had never seen play like that between such different species. Do any
of you have similar stories?

The light was fading, so my shots aren't terrific, but they still tell
the story.
