I had a pleasant if brief birding trip in NE Washington (Mt Salmo esp) on Sunday 12 Aug returning from week in Canadian Rockies. Pretty quiet overall, the lone highlight being BOREAL CHICKADEE (one in mixed flock on trail east from Mt. Salmo trailhead). I was delighted to find a NORTHERN BOG LEMMING about a third the way up on the rougher road from the fork up to the Mt. Salmo lookout.

On the way back to Portland I stopped at the Hatton Rest Area (jct 395/26), tipped off by Kevin Black?s timely note (thanks!), where Warren (didn?t get last name) from Tri-cities and I found the juvenile STILT SANDPIPER as well as two BAIRD?S SANDPIPERS, several GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS, WESTERN and LEAST S, AMER AVOCETs and BLACK-N STILTS, and one LONG-B DOWITCHER.
