Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 16. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On August 12 a LITTLE GULL was at Summer Lake. A BREWER?S SPARROW and a
COMMON GALLINULLE were at seen August 9 at Agate Lake near White City. On
August 8 a BROWN BOOBY was reported about 30 miles off Curry County.

The sandpiper migration continues with many BAIRD?S SANDPIPERS reported
during the week. Spectacular concentrations of BROWN PELICANS, SOOTY
SHEARWATERS, and other fish eating birds were reported during the week at
the South Jetty of the Columbia River. The heavy RED CROSSBILL
concentrations along the coast continues with some nesting activity
reported. Large numbers were also reported from the Bend and Eugene areas.

On August 10 a WHITE-FACED IBIS was seen at Myers Creek Beach north of
Pistol River. On August 10 an AVOCET was at Ridgefield NWR. Over 50 WHITE
PELICANS and 83 GREAT EGRETS were at Smith/Bybee Lakes in North Portland
August 9. A flock of WHITE PELICANS was over Sellwood in southeast Portland
August 12. On August 12 a STILT SANDPIPER was at Fern Ridge Reservoir. A
WHIMBREL was there August 14.

On August 12 a family of COMMON GOLDENEYES were on Langdon Lake near
Tollgate in Umatilla County. The species has nested there in other years.

On August 10 a survey at Lake abert recorded 20,015 EARED GREBES, 400
BLACK-NECKED STILTS, 6051 AVOCETS, AND 214,000 WILSON?S PHALAROPES.
RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were well scattered in low numbers throughout Oregon,
and were in low numbers at Lake Abert.
