Tina,
I spoke with Matt Knox today, Ecologist for City of Kent and site manager for the GRNRA (Kent Ponds) and he said that several years ago the city was granted federal funding for salmon habitat restoration in the valley. They are just now beginning to receive the money and start the work in several areas in the floodplain. The Chinook and Coho fry were the target species that the enhanced areas are targeted to help so the site that you mention may be one of those areas. There is another area along SR-516 near the old tree farm that will be rehabilitated as well he said.

As for the White-tailed Kite- Another birder was at the ponds with me this morning and he said that he did not see the Kite at the Boeing ponds. We didn't see it at the Kent ponds and we were there from 8 am until about 10:45am. Lucky you for seeing it as it's a VERY unusual sighting for that area, I wonder where it was headed?
Cheers,

Liz Copeland and I had a Stilt Sandpiper hanging out with a
couple Dowitchers seen from the "grassy knoll" off of 64th. We also
spotted a White-tailed Kite flying over head at 212 and 59th
near the Boeing ponds.

I was surprised to see the ponds and mud flats off of 204th
drained and in the process of being landscaped, does anyone what the
story is behind that?
