From the Edmonds public pier this morning there were several
RHINOCEROS AUKLETS and PIGEON GUILLEMOTS in close, several MARBLED
MURRELETS on the north side of the ferry dock, and many COMMON MURRES
(125 by conservative count) spread across a wide swath farther
offshore. There were the expected Glaucous-winged, California, and
Heermann's Gulls, and a few Caspian Terns.

At the Edmonds marsh there were four LEAST SANDPIPERS and two
KILLDEERS. Other birds in migration in recent weeks have included Semi-
palmated Plovers, Semi-palmated Sandpiper's, one early Baird's
Sandpiper, and the first American Bittern that has been seen there in
over 15 years.

Also in the marsh this morning were Northern Shovelers, Mallards,
Canada Geese, Great Blue Herons, a couple of Marsh Wrens, and 30 Barn
Swallows on the utility wires along with one Purple Martin. (Purple
Martins continue to use the wooden nest boxes on the Point Wells
pilings south of Edmonds. The nest boxes have been there for so many
years, no one seems to recall who erected them.) There were no Violet-
green Swallows to be seen. Both House Finches and American Goldfinches
were present. A female Kingfisher was also hanging around.
