Hi tweeters,
My dad and I got back last night from a three day trip to ocean shores and
tokeland area.

Monday we started at Ocean shores game range in the early mourning and
stayed there all day. Birding was slow but fun in the mourning but as
afternoon started to turn into evening and peeps just kept coming and by
the end off day there were 1,000nds of shorebirds feeding and roosting.
Possible sharp tailed sandpiper very rufous head with drooping bill, rufous
neck with fine streaks down it and very rufous scalloping on back.
Highlights include:
Hudsonian godwit( found late in the day)
semipalmated sandpiper
least sandpiper
western sandpiper
baird's sandpiper
greater and lesser yellowlegs
long billed and short billed dowitcher
red necked phalarope
ruddy turnstone
semipalmated plover
killdeer
peregrine falcon
merlin
N. harrier
cackling goose


We then headed out to HTP to look for the American Avocet and Silt
Sandpiper. We found the Avocet and a pectoral sandpiper but could not find
the stilt sandpiper. other shorebirds there were Lesser Yellowlegs,
killdeer and some peeps.

Next day back to the game range in the mourning, with highlights being.
Wilson's palarope
Stilt sandpiper.

Then to Point brown jetty
both turnstones
Surfbirds
wandering tattler
sooty shearwaters of the shore a little ways
course pelicans and gulls.
Not that much at the ocean shores sewage treatment plant

Having a great start to the day we headed around the inlet to Bottle beach
with an incoming tide, highlights were
Hudsonian godwit(great to see him again)
marbled godwit
Red Knot
sanderling
black bellied plover

Then to Midway beach were there were
Western sandp.
least sandp.
greater and lesser yellowlegs
short billed dowitcher
pectoral sandpiper
baird's sandpiper

To tokeland trying to find a bar tailed gotwit which we could not find but
there were
Marbled gotwits
whimbrel
willet
least sandp.
and other peeps
It was a great day with incredible birds

The next day out to look for snowy plover at Grayland state park which we
dipped on but n nthere was a huge feeding mass including
sooty shearwater(some flying over the ground)
herrman's gull
western gull
california gull
ring billed gull
brown pelican
pacific loon
R. throated loon
common murre
double crested cormorant
Back to midway beach
pectoral sandpiper
stilt sandpiper

One last stop at bottle beach highlights include:
red knot
hudsonian gotwit
whimbrel

Back up to Ocean shores in the evening with high tide even more peeps then
monday with and estimate of 20,000+????
buff breasted sandpiper
stilt sandpiper
pectoral sandpiper
same species as before

A fantastic trip with incredible amounts of birds and some great rarities!
only dipping on bar tailed godwit and snowy plover, to bad will have to go
back!!
