hi everyone,
you may be interested to learn that not one, but TWO new species of
owls have just been described in the Philippines:

in this story, we learn that five more subspecies of owls have been
elevated to full species status, so although they are not unknown,
they are a new "tick on the life list". another interesting aspect of
this story is the unusual distribution patterns that the philippine
owls show. this will make for some interesting debates, especially
after we have more complete data on the entire group of birds.
