Dear Tweeters,
I took some time this morning (8/25) to walk the new Levee trail along the Reecer Creek Floodplain. This is promising habitat for all kinds of critters, and, hopefully, shorebirds in migration. Not many individuals, but some good diversity, especially for Kittitas County. I had 2 Western Sandpipers, 2 Least Sandpipers, 1 Greater Yellowlegs and 1 juvenile Spotted Sandpiper along with the expected large number of Killdeer. Parking for the Levee trail is best at Rotary Park/West Ellensburg Park in Ellensburg. Shorebirds were found near the I-90 underpass looking north along Reecer Creek and near W. Dollarway Rd. at the 90 degree turn in the Levee trail also looking north along Reecer Creek.

Cheers,
Walter Szeliga
