Tweets:

In addition to being extremely busy with preparation for my "big move" from SW FL (Naples, where a tropical storm/hurricane is currently approaching!) to the Port Townsend/Sequim area, I have been overwhelmed with posts/emails from many of you with regard to my RFI regarding Opperman's __A Birder's Guide to Washington__. I thank all of you that contacted me. The book is hard to find and is no longer being printed but there is hope that a new revised edition will be coming out in the future. I tried various sources recommended by Tweeters for this book, but ironically, I found it locally here in Naples, FL from my good birding friend, neighbor and owner of Thayer Birding Software, Peter Thayer. You can go here to his websites:

At any rate, rest assured that I will reply to everyone who contacted me with information and especially welcoming messages to both Tweeters and moving to Washington from Florida! Thanks everyone! You are a welcoming and generous group It's funny, some of the folks who contacted me remember me from visits/birding trips to Florida, especially Stormwater Treatment Area #5 (STA-5) in Hendry County, FL, south of Lake Okeechobee, where I have led the tours sponsored by the Hendry-Glades Audubon Society under the auspices of the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) for nearly 8 years. If you EVER come to Florida, make sure that you plan your visit to coincide to one of the monthly/semi-monthly tours at STA-5. STA-5 is one of the premier birding sites in the State of Florida. It is THE best place in the state to see both whistling-ducks, the now "countable" (for Florida and soon the ABA) Purple Swamphen as well as many, many other uncommon birds, Leps, Odes, etc. You can go here for information, directions, maps and a tour schedule of STA-5 if you desire:

I have guided others of you personally or provided you with birding info on your visits to the Sunshine State as well. I'm glad to have helped in any way. I obviously need to "bone up" on my West Coast birds, especially the Pacific Northwest birds, as I haven't birded there in many years. There have been a number of "splits" etc. as well since that time, too. It will be a fun learning experience. I feel the excitement that I remember when I first became a birder so many years ago. At any rate, I hope to meet many of you somewhere along the line in the field, at WOS meetings, Audubon meetings, etc. If I can be of any assistance to those of you who plan birding trips to Florida or Ohio (my former residence), please don't hesitate to ask. I'll do my best.

Cheers.
