Hey tweets, a gorgeous though windy day at the Fill. The movers are
really starting to move: 2 Evening Grosbeaks and 2 Western Tanagers
were foraging along the road leading into the Dime Lot. A Peregrine
zoomed by, harassed by a very brave (or foolhardy) Barn Swallow. I
can't remember ever seeing anybody harass a Peregrine before! Three
Least Sandpipers were on Main Pond, and several Spotted Sandpipers
were out on the lily pads. A Wilson's and an Orange-crowned Warbler
entertained a goodly group of us at the south end of Main Pond. As we
sat/stood there yakking about birds we have known, a juvenile Hooded
Merganser flew in and plopped down right in front of us. Out on the
Lake 2 Northern Pintails and 4 Northern Shovelers settled in among the
growing hordes of Gadwalls that are forming up their rafts for winter.
Martin Mueller, one of the merry crew at Main Pond, told me he had
seen a very bedraggled Western Meadowlark earlier, but I missed that
one. Altogether, it was a very birdy day, so things seem to be
returning to normal at the Fill at last. - Connie, Seattle
