Good morning, Tweeters -
Around 5 am this morning, I heard a Barred owl calling. In my half-sleep state, I got up and went to the window, realizing it was much closer than in other recent "conversations".
Flew downstairs (although the 2nd story bedroom is flanked by 3 Doug firs) and into the yard to see if I could locate it but couldn't find my flashlight in my excited stupor. I think I was directly beneath the owl - the call echoing off the house walls.
I'll cross my fingers that I find a pellet today - evidence of one less rat in our yard.
Not quite as exciting as the migration happenings - I hope to get to Bottle Beach in Sept - but it's quite wonderful to be serenaded (=rudely awakened :) by an owl.
Caryn / Wedgwood
Also found a YS flicker feather under my feeders - interesting to compare to Northern Flicker.
