Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 30. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On August 27 a LARK BUNTING was photographed near Cape Blanco. A
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was seen August 25 among a migrant flock at Twin
Bridges in Tumalo State Park near Bend. On august 24 an UPLAND SANDPIPER was
on the deflation plain at the South Jetty of the Siuslaw River.

Fall migration is now well underway. Especially noted during the week were
RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, WHITE-FRONTED GEESE, PINTAILS, and
GREEN-WINGED TEAL.

Large numbers of ELEGANT TERNS are now along the northern California coast.
On August 26 about 200 were in the Brookings area. Four were at Gold Beach
August 25. A white GLAUCOUS GULL was photographed August 25 at Bandon. On
August 23 an ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER was in Newport. A BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPER was seen August 27 at Little Beach at the mouth of the Necanicum
River in Gearhart.

On August 29 a RUFF and a WHIMBREL were at the Fernhill Wetlands. A STILT
SANDPIPER was at Ankeny NWR August 24. That day a PRAIRIE FALCON was Fern
Ridge Reservoir. On August 29 among the many migrants on Skinners Butte in
Eugene was a MOCKINGBIRD and an actively hunting BARRED OWL.

Migrant birds are now increasing at Malheur NWR Headquarters. On August 29 a
CATBIRD was seen there.
