On my way to Subway this afternoon, as I was driving past the pond on the corner of 40th and Wollochet Dr. I noticed a big white and brown moving blob so naturally I have to stop and look. That blob was an adult Bald Eagle taking a bath. I sat and watched it bath for about ten minutes. It dunked its head and splashed around in the water with its wings. I observed it fan out its tail feathers in the water several times and shaking its hind end in the water. It was very cool and somewhat cute considering it was a Bald Eagle.

After It flew away, I continued my journey into Gig Harbor for some subs. I took a right onto Fillmore and there sitting on top of a small tree right at the fence at the old nursery facing Fillmore was a female American Kestrel. Of course I had to stop and observe.... How often have do I get the chance to see a Kestrel, an up close Kestrel?? The correct answer here would be "Never."

I watched this female Kestrel for a while as she perched on this tiny tree top for a while. The wind had really picked up and it was amazing to see her hang on and stay perched. After a while she flew and perched on the fence right down in front of her about four or five feet. I watched her for close to half hour. She moved a couple times from one section of the fence to another and at one time, darted right over to a tree across the street but she came right back to the fence. When she got to that tree I saw something white fall to the ground but she came right back to the fence. Not sure what it was but she didn't go back for it. It was very interesting watching her. Very cool!!

Now... If I could just find the Great Grey Owl thats been seen around the Grange I'd be one happy girl!!!

Make Everyday A Birding Day,

Wendy
