Northern Flickers are mostly ground feeders and I have seen them many times
on the ground hopping around like Robins.

See here http://www.birdweb.org/Birdweb/bird/northern_flicker for more
details. Click on ?Life History? tab to see more details on its behavior
and diet.

Something just caught my eye out of my window and there are THREE Flickers
doing American Robin impressions in my back yard. Hopping around on the
grass....wait...FOUR Flickers eating bugs (I assume) and worms (I observed)
on the ground. I've never seen Flickers doing this before....have I just
missed it all this time or is this something weird?
