What a windy morning! Whitecaps on the lake and blown cap off the head.
Fortunately, the rain was only a moderate drizzle, then clearing later.
The weather did not deter the birds and there was lots of action.

A Barn Owl was struggling with the wind early (7:10), and Wilson's Snipe
were calling from Seven Meadow.

The swim platform had only a few gulls; those that were there could
hardly stand: a few Ring-billed and California and a single Herring
Gull. Circling above and back and forth across the park were several
large flocks of Mew Gull, numbering over a hundred.

A flock of 6 Trumpeter Swans flew over the lake from Juanita, landing
just off the swim platform. Another flock of 8 Trumpeters were in
Pontiac Bay. Several dozen Western Grebe and close to a dozen
Pied-billed were mostly from NOAA and north; a single Horned Grebe was
in the calmer water near the marina. A couple of Hooded Mergansers were
in the Shore Lagoon early.

The large flocks of Scaup must have been hiding from the wind as there
only a couple dozen of each species: Lessers hunkered down by the
marina; Greaters out by NOAA. Same with the Common Goldeneye, but the
Buffleheads (with the wind they looked like Bobbleheads) seemed not
bothered and were everywhere. Normal collection of dabbling ducks in the
ponds, including a Eurasian Wigeon in Promontory Pond.

Lot's of Golden-crowned Sparrows, but only a single Fox and a single
Lincoln's. A single Cedar Waxwing was hanging out with a large flock of
robins. Several Yellow-rumped Warblers (all Audubon's) were foraging on
Promontory Point and a skulking Orange-crowned Warbler was seen in the
shrubbery at the Community Garden.
