Normally walking the beach between North Beach and Carkeek Park reveals the "usual Sound suspects" for birding. Yesterday----about 75 to 100 yards offshore----a new visitor was whirling in a foraging foray among the Surf Scoters and Horned Grebes. It was a Red Phalerope in winter plumage. Within 15 minutes of catching my attention, it was apparent that the Phalerope had also captured the attention of a Peregrine Falcon?. The falcon moved aerobatic ally and swiftly to flush and chase the phalarope. After its 3rd effort, it managed to "harvest" my discovery. The bird was alive when I "listed" it. Dang that "balance of nature." It was something to behold.
