A Snowy Owl that was found injured last winter (head injury, damaged eye) was released yesterday at the Thomle Road site. The bird was found four miles from there the year before, on Marine Drive. Thomle Road was deemed a better release site, yet close to where the bird was found. I would appreciate any sightings anyone might have of the bird. He is not banded but is missing his right eye. Perfect in every other way. I understand there is probably some question as to releasing a one-eyed owl but he was deemed releasable by the rehab center, a vet, myself and other raptor folks. The bird was conditioned by me for two months prior to release (exercised and given rodents to hunt, he never missed one of them). Anyway, as previously mentioned, I would really appreciate any reports of sightings of this bird at the Thomle Road site or other areas. I would love to keep track of how he is doing, if possible. Best guess was a second year male (I've been corresponding with a women who works with captive Snowy Owls in Spain and thus is familiar with plumage) but of course this was just a guess. He has very little black on his head and breast with black starting in the belly). And of course easy to recognize with one eye.
