Hi all,

After hearing the long absent flock of Type-3 Red Crossbills pass by my
window when I woke up this morning I thought it might be worth walking
around the neighborhood for a few minutes to see what else was around.
There has been a big flock of Pine Siskins (50-60) in the area for weeks
now feeding on alders in my the cul-de-sac. Suddenly, 2 Common Redpolls
flew over me calling, heading toward the trees containing the large siskin
flock. I was lucky they were separate from the flock where I could pick out
their calls easily! In '08 I saw three CORE's in my yard that stuck around
for several days.

Other birds in the area today: 2 Townsend's Warblers, Pileated, Hairy, and
Downy Woodpeckers, 1 Type-4 Red Crossbill, 5 Varied Thrushes, and a
Sharp-shinned Hawk.
