Besides the successful and awe-inspiring Snowy Owl release at Volunteer Park last Saturday, there was another on Thomle Rd. last Sunday. Quite a different scene from the one at which a large crowd gathered 'round to witness the Snowy fly up, up and away - at Thomle, a small group joined in on the one-eyed Snowy release, which also featured a strong, healthy, rehabbed and conditioned Snowy.

I attempted to get up to Stanwood in time for the release, but, holdong true to my nature, I was running (walking) late and, when I tried to drive fast to get there on time, the flashing lights of a patrol car behind me, told me I'd not make it to Thomle quite in the nick :-( After putting up no contest to the officer's statement about my speeding, the officer processed the incident and I was back on my way fairly quickly and got to the release site to find the Snowy already out in the field, a 'Splendor in the Grass'. Luckily, photos and a video had been taken during the release. Below is a link to friend Ray's video, showing what I had missed. I can tell you for a fact the sensation of joy and wonderment for me, was a lot stronger at the Sat. release. Others on Sunday may have had a stronger emotion on Sunday than I did, particularly Simone, and Kestrel, 2 of the Sarvey volunteers who had played prominent roles in the owl's post-rescue care, and a photographer who was at both events and who frequently checks on and takes VERY nice photos of Snowy Owls, particularly the ones in the Stanwood area. A link to Greg Henson's photographs of Snowies can be found on his Flickr site, also below.

Larry Hubbell's "Union Bay Watch" blogpost on the Capitol Hill Snowy Owl release has a lot more information and photographs, and can be found at http://unionbaywatch.blogspot.com/2012/12/capitol-hill-snowy-freedom.html - this post has links to 2 television network news videos from the weekend, as well.

Greg Henson's photos from both releases can be viewed on his Flickr site : http://www.flickr.com/photos/31069968 at N08/

And now, the moment you've been awaiting, the 'release' of Ray's YouTube video: "The Release of Snowy One-eye":
