Hi Tweeters,

On Monday 12/17, Phyllis and Ivar Dolph alerted me to an American Dipper
at the northeast end of the Big Beaver Pond in the Anacortes Community
Forest Lands. I went looking on Tuesday 12/18 and found the bird; it was
feeding actively along several downed logs on the surface and singing
energetically too. The first I've ever seen on Fidalgo Island, a rare
treat.

Best viewed via Trail 123 along the east shore of the pond. Access by
trail 104, then 108 from the end of 29th, or 107, then 108 from the end
of 31st Street west of D Ave.

On a common-but-fun bird note, this morning I opened the front door and
startled a Bewick's Wren sheltering from the wind in our entryway.

Good birding,
Kristi Hein
Anacortes
